- The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team won its first two matches Saturday at the Tom Hay Invitational Tournament at Springfield College, but was defeated in the championship match by Endicott College, 3-0, in Blake Arena.
The Panthers started the day with a 3-1 victory over Westfield State (30-15, 30-21, 25-30, 31-29), and followed that with a 3-0 sweep of Gordon College (31-29, 30-16, 30-22). Endicott won the title, however, defeating the Panthers 30-17, 30-28, 33-31.
PSU, which is ranked 13th in New England, finished the weekend with a 19-8 overall record. Endicott, ranked 10th in New England, improves to 16-4. Endicott, which had never defeated PSU prior to this season, is now 2-0 against the Panthers this fall.
Juniors Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) and Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) earned All-Tournament Team honors for Plymouth State. Landry registered 41 kills and 23 digs to earn All-Tournament recognition for the fourth time this season. Bagwell contributed 103 assists and 27 digs to collect her second tournament honor of the campaign.
Junior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) also had 32 kills and 24 digs for PSU. Junior Kim Krause (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) chipped in with 18 kills and 21 digs, and freshman Kim Tobyne (Bedford, N.H.) added 40 digs, including a team-high 18 against Westfield State.
Plymouth State returns home to host Saint Joseph's College Wednesday at Foley Gymnasium (6:00 p.m.)
