- The Middlebury College volleyball team had little trouble with Plymouth State University Wednesday night, capturing a three-set win in the Pepin Gym.
The host Panthers defeated the visiting Panthers, 30-11, 30-28, 30-15. Middlebury, which is ranked 11th in New England, improved to 15-8 overall, while Plymouth State, ranked 13th in New England, fell to 20-9.
Sophomore Lacee Patterson had eight kills to lead the Middlebury offense, while seniors Katy Hicks and Sydney Hartsock added seven kills apiece. Junior Jamie Wong had 23 digs on the night, while senior setter Laurie Wollin added 16 digs along with 28 assists.
Junior Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) led PSU with 11 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Kaitlyn Collins (Mahwah, N.J.) contributed nine kills and 10 digs.
Plymouth State plays a pair of key Little East Conference matches this Saturday in an LEC Round Robin in Providece, R.I., facing Rhode Island College and Eastern Connecticut State University. PSU and ECSU are tied with Western Connecticut for first place in the conference, all with 4-1 records.
