- The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on a strong note, winning three out of four matches Friday and Saturday at the annual Brandeis Judges Classic.
The Panthers, who are ranked 13th in New England, split their two matches on Friday, defeating Gordon College in three games (30-21, 30-23, 30-25) before falling to host Brandeis in four games (30-26, 23-30, 30-27, 30-18). PSU came back with a pair of wins on Saturday, defeating Endicott in a five-game thriller (30-27, 28-30, 26-30, 30-28, 15-9) and sweeping Saint Joseph's College in three games (30-14, 30-24, 30-23).
The win over Endicott was particularly pleasing for Plymouth State. The Power Gulls, 26-6 overall and ranked fourth in New England, had defeated the Panthers twice earlier this season, and has suffered only two setbacks in the region this fall.
PSU concludes the regular season with a 25-11 overall record. The Panthers, who finished in a tie for first in the Little East Conference with a 5-2 mark, are the third seed in next week's LEC Tournament and will host sixth-seeded Keene State Wednesday at Foley Gymnasium (6:00 p.m.).
The LEC semifinals and championship matches are at Rhode Island College next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6. PSU is seeking its first LEC volleyball championship.
