Colby-Sawyer upends Panther Volleyball
NEW LONDON, N.H. - Seniors Amy Tarte (Meredith, N.H.) and Anne Coulter (Hudson, N.H.) etched their names into the Colby-Sawyer College record book Tuesday night as the pair helped the Chargers defeat Plymouth State University, 30-18, 20-30, 30-26, 30-20, in non-conference women's volleyball action.
Tarte recorded 19 digs to give her 1,273 for her career, surpassing the 1,266 compiled by Mary Ann Prescott. Coulter, meanwhile, had five total blocks to give her 283 for her career, besting Missy Eckman's total of 282.
Coulter also added 11 kills for the Chargers (4-3), who got a team-high 16 kills from Kathy Couture (Greenfield, Mass.). Junior setter Jessica Niebuhr (Manitou Springs, Colo.) had 31 assists and 19 digs for the Chargers.
Senior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Panthers with a team-high 14 kills and 21 digs. Senior Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) added a team-best 25 digs, while senior setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) had a match-high 36 assists, including career assist number 3,000. She is the second player in school history to record 3,000 assists, joining Jessie O'Hearn, who had 3,292 from 1999-2002.
Plymouth State returns home to host a Little East Conference Round Robin Friday and Saturday at Foley Gymnasium. The Panthers will face Keene State Friday at 7:00 p.m., Western Connecticut Saturday at 11:00 a.m., and Southern Maine Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Thursday night, traveling to Rivier for a 7 p.m. match.
