PSU Volleyball wins two matches in Little East Round Robin
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University defeated a pair of Little East Conference rivals Saturday afternoon, both by 3-0 scores, at an LEC women's volleyball round-robin at PSU's Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers swept by Western Connecticut in the morning match, 30-18, 30-16, 31-29, and then ran by Southern Maine 30-15, 30-23, 30-28. PSU, the defending LEC champs, improves its LEC record to a perfect 3-0 (9-3 overall).
In the other Saturday matches, Keene State defeated Southern Maine 3-0 and then knocked off Western Connecticut, 3-1, in the afternoon match. Western Conn. was a five-time LEC champion from 1999-2003.
Senior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the Panthers with 16 kills against Western Connecticut and eight kills against Southern Maine. Senior Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) added nine kills against WCSU and eight kills against USM. Senior Amanda Bagwell added 29 assists in the first match and 22 assists in the second match while sophomore Kim Tobyne (Bedford, N.H.) chipped in with 14 digs on the day.
PSU returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Endicott at Foley Gymnasium (6:00 p.m.) Keene State improves to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while Southern Maine drops to 2-5 and 0-3. Western Connecticut is now to 2-5 and 1-2.
