PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Lauren Verge (Somersworth, N.H.) registered a team-high 14 kills Wednesday evening to lead Plymouth State University to a three-game sweep of the University of Massachusetts Boston in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match at Foley Gymnasium.
PSU pulled out a 30-28 decision in the opening game, then posted 30-12 and 30-13 victories to put the match away. The Panthers remain undefeated in conference play this season (4-0) while improving to 13-5 overall. UMB falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the LEC. Plymouth State also improved its home record this year to 8-1.
Senior Becky Ciulla (Chelmsford, Mass.) also contributed 10 kills and four blocks to the Panther victory, and classmate Kelly Landry (Nashua, N.H.) added eight kills and four service aces. Sophomore Kim Tobyne (Bedford, N.H.) led the squad with five digs, and senior setter Amanda Bagwell (Riverside, R.I.) finished with 33 assists.
PSU returns to action this weekend at the Bates College Tournament. UMB plays at the Salem State Invitational on Saturday.
