NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team ran into some of the top teams in Division III over the weekend at the NYU Fall Invitational, hosted by New York University, and dropped all three matches on Saturday.
PSU was defeated in its opening match Saturday morning in four games to St. John Fisher (30-26, 21-30, 30-19, 30-25), and then got swept by host NYU, the sixth-ranked team in Division III (30-17, 30-27, 30-23). The Panthers wrapped up the event with a four-game loss to Rochester Institute of Technology (30-27, 30-20, 28-30, 30-13).
The Panthers, who completed the tournament in fifth place with a 1-4 record, are now 17-11 overall. NYU won the tournament by going 5-0 to improve its record to 20-2, while Elmhurst finished runner-up and is now 19-4. RIT also improved to 20-5.
Plymouth State is making the most of its trip to New York City, staying an extra day to enjoy the sites and culture. PSU doesn't return to action until Wednesday, Oct. 19, when the Panthers host Middlebury College in the final regular-season home match at Foley Gymnasium.
