PSU Volleyball players earn top weekly conference honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two of the starters on the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team were recognized Monday with the top weekly honors from the Little East Conference.
Junior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) and
senior Sarah Spears (Meredith, N.H./Inter-Lakes)
were named LEC Women's Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Players
of the Week, respectively. They were key players who helped the
Panthers start the season with a 3-0 record last weekend and the
championship of the Colby College Invitational.
A 6'0" middle hitter, Badeau (right) was named Most Valuable Player at the Colby Tournament after averaging 4.90 kills per game with a strong .452 attack percentage. She had 22 kills in Friday night's five-set win over Gordon, 19 kills with only two errors (.567) in PSU's sweep of Colby on Saturday, and she added eight kills in only two sets in the championship-clinching win over Husson. A strong net player, Badeau also contributed seven blocks on the weekend, including four solo blocks.
A 5'3" libero, Spears (left) led the Panther defense
in the Colby Tournament, averaging 4.55 digs per game. She
had 18 digs in Friday night's five-set win over Gordon, 20 digs in
PSU's sweep of Colby on Saturday, and 12 digs in the
championship-clinching win over Husson.
PSU returns home to host its own tourney this weekend, the Days Inn of Campton Tournament at Foley Gymnasium. Tournament matches are at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, with the championship match slated for Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
