PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team received its seventh consecutive post-season berth Monday with a selection to the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.
The Panthers (19-14) received the third seed in the tournament, and will host sixth-seeded Norwich University (16-8) this Wednesday (Nov. 12) at 6:00 p.m. at Foley Gymnasium. Plymouth State is playing in the ECAC Tournament for the sixth time in seven years, in addition to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2004.
The other first-round matches on Wednesday include top-seeded Colby-Sawyer College (23-12) hosting eighth-seeded Worcester State College (17-14), second-seeded Johnson & Wales University (25-12) hosting seventh-seeded Regis College (15-16); and fourth-seeded University of New England (17-14) hosting fifth-seeded Babson College (16-11). The highest remaining seed will host the semifinals and championship match on Saturday, Nov. 10, with times to be announced following first-round action.
Wednesday's match will be the second meeting of the season between Plymouth State and Norwich. The Panthers swept the Cadets, 3-0, on Oct. 15 in Northfield, Vt.
Plymouth State, led by 11th-year head coach Moira Long, received the ECAC berth after finishing in fifth place in the Little East Conference regular season. PSU was knocked out of the LEC Tournament in the first round by fourth-seeded Western Connecticut, 3-1. The Cadets were the sixth seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament and were knocked out in the first round by third-seeded Emerson College, 3-0.
PSU won its first-round match in the ECAC Tournament in 2003 and 2005 before falling in the semifinal round both seasons. The Panthers were first-round victims in 2002, 2006 and 2007.
