PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State University posted a pair of three-set sweeps Friday evening on the first day of the annual Days Inn of Campton Women's Volleyball Tournament being played at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers downed Lesley College in their opening match, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-12, and came back with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-17 victory over Mount Ida College. The Panthers improve to 6-0 on the season.
In other tournament matches, Mount Ida swept Thomas College (25-14, 25-5, 25-11) and Emerson College won three straight from Lesley (25-16, 25-15, 25-14). Emerson is the defending tournament champion and is now 5-0 on the season.
Seniors Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) and Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) led the Panthers to victory over Lesley, Newton with 10 kills and Badeau with nine. Sophomore Meghan Sullivan (Marlton, N.J.) chipped in with eight kills, and senior Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) recorded 30 set assists.
Sullivan and Badeau both reached double figures in kills in PSU's win over Mount Ida, Sullivan with 13 and Badeau with 10. Kleckner finished with 27 assists, and sophomore Alex Avery (Milton, N.H.) made a team-high 10 digs to pace the defense.
The tournament continues on Saturday with round-robin matches at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. PSU faces Thomas at noon and Emerson at 2:00 p.m.
