PSU Volleyball defeats Thomas and Emerson
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Seniors Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass.) and Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) led the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team to two more victories Saturday afternoon as the Panthers captured the annual Days Inn of Campton Tournament at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers won both their matches in three games, defeating Thomas College (25-12, 25-8, and 25-9) and defending champion Emerson College (25-21, 25-7, 25-22). The Panthers improved to 8-0 on the season, with all eight matches won by a 3-0 sweep.
PSU finished the tournament at 4-0, while Emerson was runner-up after going 3-1 on the weekend to improve its overall record to 7-1. Mount Ida finished third in the tournament with a 2-2 mark, followed by Lesley University (1-3) and Thomas (0-4).
Newton posted 13 kills in the key match against Emerson and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Kleckner averaged more than 10 set assists per game in the tournament and was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Senior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I.) contributed 45 kills for the Panthers over the two-day affair.
PSU is back in action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. match at Colby Sawyer.
