PSU Volleyball player receives top Little East honor
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the middle hitters on the
Plymouth State University women's volleyball team was recognized
Tuesday with one of the top weekly honors from the Little East
Conference.
Senior Carly Newton (Centerville, Mass./Barnstable) was named LEC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 18. She was a key player in helping PSU to a 2-1 week, receiving her first LEC honor in a Panther uniform.
A 6'0" middle hitter, Newton (right) averaged 4.00 kills
per set with an attack percentage of .393 for the week. She had at
least 12 kills in all three matches and hit over .500 in two of the
three. Newton recorded 12 kills in Wednesday's win over
Norwich, 17 kills in Saturday's loss to Smith, and 15 kills in
Saturday's win over Mount Holyoke. She also made
four blocks in the three matches, including three against Smith.
Newton is among the LEC leaders in two offensive categories. She ranks seventh in the conference in hitting percentage (.292) and 10th in kills per set (2.68).
PSU, which is ranked in the top 10 in the New England rankings, hosts Middlebury on Wednesday, Oct. 21, on Senior Night at Foley Gymnasium (6:00 p.m.)
