PLYMOUTH, N.H. - It's "Tournament Week" for schools in the Little East Conference and two Plymouth State University teams will be vying for conference championships.
The Panther field hockey and women's volleyball teams will represent Plymouth State in this week's Little East tournaments. They will be trying to do what every team sets out to do at the beginning of the season, win the LEC Tournament and receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships. Many of the LEC Tournament games are available to watch online at www.littleeast.tv.
The PSU FIELD HOCKEY team finished the regular season with a 10-7 overall record and a 6-5 mark in conference play. The seventh-seeded Panthers will travel to second-seeded University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. first-round game. The semifinals are slated for Thursday at the higher-seeded teams, and the championship game is Saturday at the highest remaining seed. PSU, which lost to UMass Dartmouth during the regular season, 2-1, is looking for its first LEC title since winning three in a row from 2000-02.
The PSU WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL team completed a fantastic regular season at 29-4 overall and 6-1 in conference matches. The Panthers are the second seed in this week's tournament, and receive a first-round bye on Tuesday. The semifinals are slated for this Friday, Nov. 6, at top-seeded University of Massachusetts Boston, with PSU playing the 6:00 p.m. match. The championship match will be played Saturday at 12 noon at UMB. Plymouth State will be out to claim its first LEC Tournament title since 2004.
