PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The two senior captains of the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team were recognized Tuesday with selections to the 2009 All-Little East Conference Team.
Senior Eliza Badeau (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) took top honors for the Panthers and was named LEC Co-Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Star, while senior Brianna Kleckner (Terryville, Conn.) was selected All-LEC Second Team. Badeau was named to the All-LEC First Team after three years as a Second Team choice, while Kleckner is named Second Team for the third time in her four years.
A 6'0" middle hitter, Badeau (right) leads the NCAA Division III in attack percentage (.477) and ranks eighth in kills per set (4.49). She leads the LEC in both categories and was named LEC Player of the Week four times this season. Badeau was selected to three All-Tournament Teams this fall, including twice as MVP. She shares the Player of the Year honor with UMass Boston's Kate McWhorter.
Badeau is also making a name for herself in the PSU record books. She has already set the career blocks record with 388, and needs 18 kills to break Kelly Landry's career kills mark (1,691).
A 5'3" setter, Kleckner (left) is tied for 21st in the NCAA Division III in assists per set (10.49). She is second the LEC in assists and was named to two All-Tournament Teams this season.
Kleckner has also etched her name in the PSU record books. She set the career assists record earlier this season, and now has 4,317 assists.
PSU, 30-5 overall, has set a program standard for victories in a season. The Panthers are the top seed and defending champion of the ECAC New England Tournament, and begin play this Wednesday, Nov. 11, with a first round match at Foley Gymnasium against eighth-seeded Emmanuel College (6:00 p.m.)
