Panthers defeated by St. Mary's (Minn.) and Bowdoin
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of tough matches Saturday at the Endicott College Invitational, dropping a five-set marathon to Saint Mary's College (Minn.) before falling to Bowdoin College in three sets.
PSU completes the tournament with a 1-3 record, including a win Friday over Salve Regina University and a loss to Williams College. The Panthers are now 4-4 overall on the season.
The match against St. Mary's was close the entire way, with PSU falling in the fifth and final set, 15-13. The Cardinals won the first and fourth sets by two points (29-27 and 25-23) while the Panthers took the second and third sets (25-23 and 25-15). Playing its fourth match in less than 24 hours, PSU fell in the final contest of the day to Bowdoin, 25-17, 25-16, and 25-10.
Sophomore Allie Jones was PSU's representative on the All-Tournament Team. She recorded 11 kills with just two attempts in the St. Mary's match, and finished the tournament with 36 kills and 12 service aces.
Junior Casey Stoodley continued her strong play for the Panthers, leading the team with a season-high 20 kills against St. Mary's and adding eight kills vs. Bowdoin. Sophomore Kaitlyn Tedeschi added 13 kills in the loss to St. Mary's.
Senior Danielle Stoodley led the defense with a team-high 18 digs against St. Mary's and 12 against Bowdoin. Jones and junior Elissa Morin recorded six and four blocks, respectively, in the loss to St. Mary's.
PSU is back on the court Tuesday with a match at Saint Michael's College in what will be an emotional match. Panther head coach Chris Kilmer spent the past six years at Saint Michael's, including the last three as head coach.
