Panthers dump Smith and Mount Holyoke
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches Saturday afternoon, defeating Smith College and Mount Holyoke College in a multi-team event hosted by Smith.
Plymouth State dropped its first set of the day, but captured the next six to collect the two victories. The Panthers defeated Smith in four sets (22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-21) and came back with a three-set sweep (25-18, 27-25, 25-13) over Mount Holyoke. PSU is now 17-8 on the season, while Smith is now 7-13 and Mount Holyoke is 7-12.
Sophomore Allie Jones was PSU's big hitter against Smith with 19 kills, her second-highest total in a match this season. She made just one error for a dazzling .600 attack percentage. Senior Casey Stoodley added nine kills while senior Meghan Sullivan and junior Elissa Morin chipped in with eight apiece. Senior setter Sarah Cady recorded 43 set assists, and senior libero Danielle Stoodley finished with a team-high 14 digs.
Casey Stoodley led the way for PSU in the win over Mount Holyoke, smacking 12 kills. Jones added four kills and three service aces, Cady contributed 34 assists, and Danielle Stoodley was good for a team-high 15 digs.
After playing eight straight road matches, PSU returns home to host Middlebury College Wednesday at Foley Gymnasium.
