Stoodley leads Panthers in LEC win over Corsairs
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team swept a pair of home matches Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium, winning a Little East Conference match over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the opener, 3-0, and repeating the 3-0 performance in the nightcap over non-conference foe University of Maine Farmington. UMD knocked off UMF in the middle match of the day, 3-1.
The Panthers handed UMass Dartmouth their first loss of the season after 11 straight victories (25-11, 25-17, 25-17). Senior Casey Stoodley (Salem, N.H.) led the way with 16 kills, 11 digs and three service aces. PSU then had little trouble with UMF(25-15, 25-17, 25-18) as the Panthers improved to 5-8 overall (1-1 in the LEC). UMD is now 12-1 overall (1-1 in the LEC) and UMF is 2-8.
Senior Elissa Morin (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Sam Clark (Coventry, R.I.) also combined for 15 kills and two blocks in PSU's win over UMD. Junior Cassie Pelton (Brookline, N.H.) collected a team-high 12 digs, and freshman setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) finished with 22 assists.
PSU used 13 different players in the win over UMF. Sophomore Becca Gosselin (Bedford, N.H.) recorded a team-high 11 kills and sophomore setter Hannah Anderson (Exeter, R.I.) collected 32 assists. Stoodley also contributed nine kills and a team-high 12 digs.
Plymouth State is back in action Tuesday evening with an in-state encounter at Colby-Sawyer College.
