PSU Volleyball defeats Lasell, extends win streak to six
Nieman, Taffe lead Panthers to non-conference win
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) smashed 12 kills and freshman Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H.) added 10 Tuesday evening as the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 3-0 victory over Lasell College in non-conference action at Foley Gym.
Nieman finished with a .462 attack percentage thanks to zero attacking errors, while Taffe hit at a .529 clip, with just one attack error. Taffe added five blocks and Nieman two as the Panthers improved to 7-4 overall this season, including 3-0 at home. Lasell saw its record evened at 7-7.
The Panthers rattled through the opening set and won by a score of 25-12. Lasell put up a stronger fight in the second set before going down, 25-20. The upset-minded Lasers turned in a valiant effort in the third set before the Panthers pulled it out, 26-24, to clinch the victory.
Sophomore setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) also contributed to the win with 32 assists. Senior Cassie Pelton (Brookline, N.H.) made 22 digs, her second-highest in a match this season, and freshman Rachel Morrissey (Salem, N.H.) added 14 digs.
Freshman Abigail Rollins (North Caldwell, N.J.) led the Lasers with 10 kills, while sophomore Sharisse Scott-Rawlins (Brockton, Mass.) added nine kills and a team-best 14 digs. Sophomore Jordan Seid (Rowland Heights, Calif.) and senior Anna Feeter (Peterborough, N.H.) chipped in with seven digs apiece for the Lasers.
PSU is back on the court Saturday with a tri-match at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, facing the Corsairs in a Little East Conference match followed by a non-league encounter against Husson University. Lasell plays a tri-match Saturday at Emmanuel with Johnson & Wales.
