Wojtas leads Panthers to Little East victory
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) smashed 13 kills with a .520 attack percentage Saturday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to a 3-0 sweep of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a Little East Conference women's volleyball match at Foley Gymnasium.
The Panthers won by set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-16, limiting UMD to a negative attack percentage. The Panthers improve their record to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the Little East, while the Corsairs drop to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Wojtas did not record an attack error for the second straight match, posting 13 kills on 25 attempts. She also registered a team-high three blocks. Senior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) chipped in with seven kills and sophomore Mikki Taffe (East Hampstead, N.H.) contributed six winners, and junior setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) made a team-high five service aces.
Junior Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass.) led the visitors with six kills, while classmate Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added three winners. Junior libero Briana Perry (Acushnet, Mass.) posted a match-high 22 digs, while junior Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass.) added 10 digs.
PSU is back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Johnson & Wales Fall Classic in Providence, R.I. UMD returns home to host Mount Ida College in a non-conference match Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
