PSU Women’s Volleyball takes two in LEC/NEWMAC Challenge

Panthers sweep Mount Holyoke and Smith

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team registered a pair of victories Saturday at Foley Gymnasium, sweeping Mount Holyoke College and Smith College in the Little East Conference-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (LEC-NEWMAC) Challenge.

            Keene State also swept two matches from Mount Holyoke and Smith, giving the Little East a 4-0 sweep on the day. PSU improves to 10-15 on the season while Keene State is now 14-14, Smith is 6-15 and Mount Holyoke is 2-19.

            PSU defeated the Lyons of Mount Holyoke in the first match of the day, 25-16, 25-22, and 25-11. Senior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) led the Panthers with 13 kills and a .300 attack percentage (13-1-30, while sophomore Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) added seven winners. Freshman libero Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, Ariz.) finished with 16 digs to lead the Panther defense, and junior setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) had 18 set assists.

            The Panthers finished the day with a 25-9, 25-13, 25-14 verdict over Smith College.  Nieman and Wojtas were again the top hitters with nine kills apiece, Nieman with a .304 attack percentage (9-2-23) and Wojtas with a .389 mark (9-2-18).  Peruch contributed 11 digs and Perrotta and freshman Megan Bailey (Canterbury, N.H.) combined for 28 assists.

            PSU returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference match at Middlebury College (7:00 p.m.)
