PSU Women’s Volleyball splits pair in home tri-match

Panthers drop LEC match to RIC, comes back to sweep Husson

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium, falling to Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College, 3-2, before coming back to defeat Husson University, 3-0, in a non-conference match to wrap up the day.

            PSU won the first two sets against RIC (25-17, 25-20), only to see the Anchorwomen battle back to win the next three sets (25-23, 25-23 and 15-11) to claim the match. Both RIC and PSU then swept Husson in straight sets in non-conference matches.

            PSU is now 11-4 overall and 1-1 in Little East matches, while RIC is 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the LEC and Husson is 6-12 overall. All eight teams in the Little East are tied with 1-1 conference records.

            Sophomore Claire Sporer (Medford, Ore.) and junior Dani Tabor (Olympia, Wash.) were PSU's big hitters in the match against RIC, Sporer with a season-high 21 kills and Tabor with 17 kills and a .406 attack percentage. Juniors Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H.) and Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) also combined to contribute 15 kills for the Panthers, and senior Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) collected a season-high 52 assists. Sophomore Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, Az.) led a group of four Panthers with double-digit digs.

            Wojtas led PSU with eight kills in the win over Husson, and junior Katie Sylvia (Lee, N.H.) chipped in with six winners. Sophomore Megan Bailey (Canterbury, N.H.) took over setting duties and finished with 17 assists, and junior Rachel Morrissey (Salem, N.H.) led the way with 14 digs.

            PSU hosts another tri-match next Saturday at Foley Gym, entertaining WPI and Salem State University in non-conference meetings, beginning at 12 noon.
