Panthers win in three sets against WPI and Salem State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team swept a non-conference tri-match Saturday afternoon at Foley Gymnasium, defeating WPI and Salem State University in three sets each.
The Panthers started the day with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 decision over WPI . After WPI defeated Salem State in three sets, PSU did the same, downing the Vikings by scores of 25-4, 25-18, 25-13. Plymouth State has won six of its last seven matches to improve to 13-4 overall. WPI is now 10-5 and Salem State falls to 3-11.
Junior Dani Tabor (Olympia, Wash.) and sophomore Claire Sporer (Medford, Ore.) led the Panthers in the win over WPI, Tabor with 12 kills and Sporer with 10. Junior Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H.) chipped in with eight winners along with seven blocks. Sophomore Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, Az.) and junior Rachel Morrissey (Salem, N.H.) both reached double figures in digs.
Freshman Alisha Flanagan (Milton, N.H.) led the Panthers in the win over WPI with eight kills, and Tabor chipped in with six kills. Junior Katie Sylvia (Lee, N.H.) was strong in serving, posting five aces, and classmate Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) contributed three kills, three aces and three blocks.
PSU, which has played seven straight home matches, travels to the University of Massachusetts Boston on Tuesday for a key Little East Conference match at 6:00 p.m.
