Panthers improve to 19-6 with fourth straight win
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – For the second straight Saturday, the Plymouth State University volleyball team swept a pair of matches, this week defeating the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a Little East Conference match and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in a non-conference encounter at UMD.
PSU downed the host Corsairs in the first match, 25-10, 25-19, and 26-24, and came back with a sweep of MCLA, 25-15, 25-16, and 25-19. The Panthers have won four in a row to improve to 19-6 overall and 2-3 in the league. UMD is now 9-18 overall and 1-4 in the Little East, and MCLA is now 20-9 overall.
Junior Dani Tabor (Olympia, Wash.) returned from injury and controlled the Panthers' attack. Tabor had a game-high 15 kills and included one solo block. Senior Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) ran the offense with a match-high 28 assists, while adding two kills and 11 digs. Sophomore libero Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, Ariz.) protected the Panthers back line with a team high 13 digs.
Tabor came back with a team-high 12 kills against MCLA, while junior Mikki Taffe (Sandown, N.H.) made seven winners on nine attempts. Juniors Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) and Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) and sophomore Claire Sporer (Medford, Ore.) chipped in with six kills each. Perrotta added 32 assists and three service aces, and Taffe made a team-high five blocks.
Plymouth State returns to the court Tuesday when it travels to meet LEC foe Southern Maine at 7 p.m. The Corsairs will be back in action when they travel to UMass Boston for a LEC match at 6 p.m.
