Panthers ranked #14 in New England in third weekly rankings
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University women's volleyball team is currently ranked 14th in the most recent edition of the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Regional Poll.
The Panthers, who did not appear in the first two weekly rankings, moved up after a pair of competitive matches against Babson and Endicott last weekend. PSU lost a close four-set match with the Beavers, then came back from a two-sets-to-one deficit to defeat the Gulls in a five-set thriller.
Johnson & Wales, ranked #16 in the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) national poll, tops the region, receiving all six first place votes and earning 90 points. Tufts is second with 83 points, with MIT, ranked #15 in the AVCA poll, taking third in the regional poll with 79 points. Wesleyan (67 points), Babson (66 points), Middlebury (59 points), Springfield (52 points), Roger Williams (46 points), Bowdoin (45 points) and Wellesley (42 points) round out the top ten.
Endicott and Clark University are tied at 11th with 27 points, with Coast Guard (19 points), PSU (7 points) and Amherst College (5 points) holding the 12-15 spots.
The Panthers (14-8) are the only Little East Conference (LEC) team to be ranked. PSU is back on the court Saturday for a tri-match at Framingham State. The Panthers will square off against Worcester State in their first match (1:00 p.m.), before facing the host Rams in the day's finale (3:00 p.m.).
NEWVA's Regional Poll is conducted by the NEWVA Poll Committee, comprised of representatives from each of the conferences in New England. The poll is released on Wednesday's and is based upon all results through the previous Sunday.
