Norklun named Offensive Player of the Week
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After helping lead the Plymouth State University women's volleyball team to an unbeaten weekend at the Best Western Plus-Ground Round Cardinal Classic at Plattsburgh State University, junior Carabeth Norklun (Goffstown, N.H.) has earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition by being named the Offensive Player of the Week.
Norklun pounded down 40 kills (3.08/set) while hitting .373 to lead the Panthers to the tournament title. She hit .500 or better in three of four matches over the weekend during which PSU dropped just one set.
In Friday night's tournament-opening sweep of Sage, Norklun finished with seven kills while hitting an even .500. She followed that up with a eight kills and a .538 hitting percentage in a 3-0 win Colby-Sawyer in the nightcap.
Her most impressive performance of the weekend came against Hartwick, another 3-0 win, during which she led the team with 12 kills, hit a sparkling .579 and added a pair of blocks. She closed out the weekend with 13 kills and four blocks in a 3-1 victory over the host Cardinals.
At 4-0, PSU is off to its best start since the 2009 team opened the year with 16-straight victories. The Panthers head to Framingham State on Tuesday (Sept. 3), before opening the home slate with a pair of matches on Friday (Sept. 6) as part of the Granite State Challenge.
