Carten, Gaudette top finishers for Panthers
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Many of the top collegiate cross country teams in New England were on hand Saturday for the annual University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational, including the first-year Plymouth State University teams.
Both Panther teams finished in 26th place in the team standings, which included 28 men's and 29 women's squads. Rowan University edged Brandeis University for the women's team championship while Franklin Pierce University outran Keene State College for the men's title.
The top finisher for PSU was freshman Jen Carten (Etters, Pa.), who ran a strong race and posted a personal-best time time of 21 minutes, 28 seconds in the 5K race, finishing in 107th place among the 207 runners. Senior Kara Comiskey (Dover, Mass.) was the next Panther to cross the finish line, placing 168th with a time of 23:50, followed by solid efforts from sophomores Krista Bouchard (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) and Cassidy Spencer (St. Francis, Maine) and junior Meagan Celley (Peabody, Mass.)
Junior Evan Gaudette (Nashua, N.H./North) finished strong in the men's race and was PSU's top finisher in 111th place among 210 runners. He finished the 8K course in 29 minutes, four seconds. Freshman Shawn Miller (Atkinson, N.H.) set a strong pace and wound up in 126th with a personal-best 29:33. The next three Panther finishers to count in the team scoring were freshman Sam Webber (Derry, N.H.), sophomore Tim Lindberg (Jericho, Vt.) and freshman Rocco Repetto (Woodstock, N.H.)
Brandeis' Amelia Lundkvist was the top women's runner, finishing the 5K in 18:15, while Franklin Pierce's Antoine Gisore topped the men's race, finishing the 8K in 24:47.
With two varsity races under the belts, the Panther runners will be racing again on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Keene State College Invitational.
