Brunnette named Runner of the Week; Bartlett, Giguere selected top Rookies
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three runners on the Plymouth State University cross country teams were honored Monday with weekly honors from the Little East Conference (LEC) following their performances in a race last Saturday at Westfield State University .
Freshman Sam Brunnette (Newport, Vt./North Country Union) was named LEC Men's Runner of the Week, and classmates Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H./Bishop Brady) and Lora Giguere (Tolland, Conn.) were selected Rookie Runners of the Week. Brunnette was a Rookie of the Week once last month while Bartlett and Giguere are honored for the first time.
Brunnette and Bartlett were the top two LEC runners in the James Earley Invitational last Saturday at Westfield State, both finishing in the top 11 among the field 373 runners. Brunnette placed ninth in the race in a school-record time of 26:29.76 on the 8K course, while Bartlett was right behind in 11th place in a time of 26:40.09, just two seconds off his personal best. She crossed the finish line of the 5K race in a school-record time of 20:29.36, placing 60th in the field of 409 competitors and dropping 37 seconds off her previous best. Giguere helped the Panthers to an 18th among 39 schools, a significant bump up from last year's 35th-place finish.
