Allen leads Panthers in Division III meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Plymouth State University women's cross country team placed 40th out of 46 teams Saturday at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships, hosted by Williams College.

The Panthers sat out their top seven runners in preparation for next Saturday's NCAA Regional Championships, according to head coach John Ostler.

Leading the way for PSU was freshman Courtney Allen (Lewiston, Maine), who placed 215th out of 311 runners. She ran the 6K course in 28 minutes, 41 seconds.

The next three Panthers runners were fairly close together. Sophomore Samantha Labens (Berlin, N.H.) was 241st in 29:15; junior Jen Carten (Etters, Pa.) was 243rd in 29:27; and freshman Isabella Mongillo (Hamden, Conn.)  was 246th in 29:28. Junior Ke Cawley(Center Conway, N.H.) was PSU's fifth finisher, coming in 276th in 31:02.

"I was excited to see what this group could do in a championship environment," said Ostler. "We had mixed results today but everyone gained valuable championship experience."

The Panthers will compete at the NCAA Regionals next Saturday in Waterford, Conn., hosted by Connecticut College. PSU will be looking to improve on last year's 48th place finish out of 57 teams.
