Panther sophomore captures first career victory
BOSTON – Plymouth State University sophomore Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) recorded his first career cross country victory Friday afternoon, outrunning 192 men's competitors at the 8k Emmanuel Saints Invitational held at Franklin Park.
Bartlett hung back for the first quarter of the race, spending time as high as 10th place in the opening minutes. He made a decisive move to the front near the midway point and applied steady pressure to a pack of three perusing runners. Bartlett briefly relinquished the lead going on the last steep hill with a half mile remaining. Bartlett, a middle distance specialist on the track, used a strong kick to overtake his competition and secure the win with 400 meters to go.
His outstanding performance helped the Panthers place 10th out of 23 teams. Norwich University captured the team title, with Wentworth second and Colby-Sawyer third.
