Brunnette represents Panthers with major award from Little East Conference

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The leading runner on the Plymouth State University men's cross country team has earned the top award from the Little East Conference (LEC) for his performance during the 2016 fall season.

Sophomore Sam Brunnette (Newport, Vt.) was named the LEC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year for 2016 in a vote of the league's head coaches. Brunnette had an outstanding season this fall, winning two races, including the Little East Conference championship.

The LEC Rookie of the Year in 2015, Brunnette started the season with a runner-up finish at the University of New England Invitational. He placed fifth at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational and then captured the individual title at the Keene State Invitational. Brunnette placed eighth at the Westfield State Invitational in his final regular season race before bringing home first place at the Little East Conference championships on Oct. 29.

Brunnette went on to earn All-Region honors with a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Regionals on Nov. 12, becoming the first All-Region runner since PSU restarted its cross country program in 2013.

Brunnette helped the Panthers to a fourth-place finish at the LEC meet under head coach John Ostler. PSU wound up with four top-five finishes this season.
