PSU Cross Country runner earns LEC honor

Brunnette named Runner of the Week after Corsair Classic

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Following an impressive performance in his season opening race, the top runner for the Plymouth State University men's cross country team has earned Little East Conference (LEC) honors.

            Senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) was selected as the LEC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

            Brunnette, who did not compete in the team's season opener at Colby-Sawyer on Sept. 1, pulled away down the home stretch to take the individual title at the Corsair Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday in a personal record time. He finished the 8k course in 24:32.02, topping his previous best time by more than ten seconds, to finish first among a field of 295 runners.

            The Panthers return to action on Saturday (Sept. 22) at the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College. Sub varsity races for both genders kick off at 11:30 a.m., with the men's varsity starting at 12:10 p.m. and women's varsity set for 1:00 p.m.
