Brunnette and Bowles earn weekly recognition
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Following another strong showing on the race course, a pair of Plymouth State University cross country runners have earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly honors.
Senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) was selected as the LEC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, while freshman Kim Bowles (Wonalancet, N.H.) was chosen as the LEC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
Brunnette captures the top honor for the second straight week. While battling a muddy course and a field containing eight regionally ranked programs, along with seven nationally ranked teams, Brunnette finished the Purple Valley Classic in second place with a time of 25:50.0. In two races this season he has captured an individual title and a second place finish.
Bowles continued her strong rookie campaign, claiming Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in three weeks. In the Purple Valley Classic 5K, a race that featured seven regionally ranked and five nationally ranked opponents, Bowles finished a strong fifth, crossing the finish line in 20:35.8. She now has two top-five finishes in three races.
The Panthers will take a week off before competing at the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State on Oct. 6. The men's sub varsity race starts at 10:30 a.m., followed by men's varsity (11:15 a.m.), women's varsity (12:00 p.m.) and women's sub varsity (12:45 p.m.).
