Brunnette and Bowles named Runner/Rookie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top runners from the Plymouth State University men's and women's cross country teams earned Little East Conference (LEC) recognition once again after the Panthers competed at the LEC Championships on Saturday.
Senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) was selected as LEC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, while freshman Kim Bowles (Wonalancet, N.H.) was tabbed LEC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week after their performances at the championship meet at Bryant University.
The duo are no strangers to conference recognition, as they've combined for nine weekly awards this fall. Brunnette picks up his fourth Runner of the Week honor, while Bowles collects an impressive fifth Rookie of the Week award.
Despite a steady rain and sloppy course conditions, Brunnette captured a third straight LEC individual title becoming just the second runner in LEC history to earn a three-peat. His time of 26:42.9 was nearly 13 seconds faster than his next closest competitor, teammate Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.).
Bowles continues her remarkable freshman season finishing 13th overall at the LEC Championships. Her time of 20:59.4 was tops among first-year runners. She has been the Panthers' top female finisher in five of six races this season.
The pair will compete at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at Bowdoin College in two weeks, where Brunnette will attempt to defend his title.
