Brunnette named Regional Athlete of the Year, earns All-New England honors

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Just days away from competing for a national title, the top runner for the Plymouth State University men's cross country team took home multiple honors from the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Senior Sam Brunnette (Newport Center, Vt.) was named the USTFCCCA New England Region Athlete of the Year while also garnering All-New England Region honors after holding off a trio of competitors over the final 400 meters of the regional championships last Saturday.

In two days he will be one of 280 athletes vying for the ultimate accomplishment in collegiate athletics. The veteran is making his second appearance at cross country nationals after earning All-America status a year ago with a 25th place finish. It will be his fifth national championship appearance overall as he also competed at the Indoor Track & Field Championships in both 2017 and 2018, as well as the Outdoor Track & Field Championships last spring. Brunnette was one of just five men to achieve All-America status in all three sports last year.

The most highly decorated runner in Plymouth State history, Brunnette begins his quest for a fourth consecutive All-America honor at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. The race will be broadcast live by FloTrack. To register for the video service visit FloTrack.com to become a monthly or annual PRO subscriber.
