PSU Women’s Cross Country runners sweep LEC awards

Bowles, Hurley named Runner and Rookie Runner of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After guiding the Plymouth State University women's cross country team to a 12th place finish at the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State University, sophomore Kim Bowles (Wonalancet, N.H.) and freshman Abby Hurley (Northborough, Mass.) earned Little East Conference (LEC) weekly recognition by being named the Runner of the Week and the Rookie Runner of the Week, respectively.

Bowles established a new personal record for the second straight week while finishing 24th at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday. Her time of 19:35.23 was the second fastest among LEC competitors at the meet and marked the fourth sub-20:00 5k race of her career, with two of them coming at the James Earley. She has been the top PSU finisher in each of the team's four races this fall.

Hurley was the Panthers' top rookie finisher after completing the 5k race in 21:16.05. Her time was the fastest among LEC freshmen at the meet and established a new career best. She has posted the top time among the team's rookies in three of four meets.

Both Bowles and Hurley have each improved their times in all three of their 5k races this season. The duo looks to continue that trend at the Suffolk Invitational on Saturday (Oct.19). The race is set for a 2:30 p.m. start.
