2018 Panthers earn Team Academic Award
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plymouth State University men's and women's soccer teams were both honored by United Soccer Coaches as the organization announced the recipients of the 2018-19 Team Academic Award.
A total of 992 teams (345 men, 647 women) earned the recognition after posting team grade point averages of 3.0 or higher. Plymouth State was one of 259 schools that had both men's and women's programs honored.
The women's team combined for a 3.29 GPA, while the men posted a team GPA of 3.15.
"Achievements you make on the field are short lived," said women's head coach Ryan Joy. "Achievements off the field set up the student-athletes for long term successes. It's a great honor to receive academic recognition. All the credit goes to these young women. Few teams can say they are at the top of their conference year after year academically."
The men have earned the honor each of the last five years, while the women claimed the honor in 2015-16, 2017-18 and now for 2018-19.
"I'm very pleased," said men's head coach Rob Wright. "The balance between academics and athletics is something we focus on and to achieve this honor for five straight years demonstrates the ability of our athletes to do just that."
Both teams are in non-conference action on Tuesday (Oct. 8). The women host Westfield State at Arold Field at 3:30 p.m., while the men travel to Endicott for a 4:00 p.m. tilt.
