Gerbner, Pettersson honored after 2-0-0 week for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team to big wins over Westfield State and Worcester State, junior Jake Gerbner (Havertown, Pa.) and senior Andreas Pettersson (Trolhattan, Sweden) have earned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) weekly recognition by being named the Player and Goalie of the Week, sponsored by GEICO.

Gerbner notched four goals over the Panthers' two games. He tallied his first career hat trick, scoring once in each period, to spark PSU to a 5-2 win over Worcester State on Saturday, scoring an even strength, power play and empty net goal. In a battle with Westfield State for the top spot in the league on Thursday, his second period goal helped open the floodgates as the Panthers turned a 2-1 lead into an 8-1 victory.

Pettersson posted a 1.80 goals against average and .941 save percentage in 100:00 minutes between the pipes for the Panthers. He stopped 18-of-19 shots over the first two periods of PSU's win over Westfield State on Thursday, then made 30 saves on Saturday. Pettersson helped out on the offensive end as well, recording an assist in each game.

Plymouth State (12-9-2, 12-3-1 MASCAC) heads to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday (Feb. 20) hoping to extend its winning streak to four games. With a win the Panthers will also secure at least a share of the regular season title.
