PSU Skiers finish third in slalom races at Pat’s Peak

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Plymouth State University ski teams both finished in third place in the slalom events Saturday at the Colby-Sawyer Winter Carnival held at Pat's Peak.

The Panther men took third behind first-place University of Massachusetts and runner-up Boston College, and ahead of Colby-Sawyer, MIT, Babson, Saint Anselm, Brown and the University of Connecticut. Colby-Sawyer won the women's event, outracing BC, PSU, Brown, Smith, UMass, Saint Anselm, MIT, UConn and Babson.

Junior Jason Hey (Northboro, Mass.) was the top Panther skier with a runner-up finish in the men's race, which included 80 racers. Hey has finished no lower than fourth in all four slalom races this season. Senior Matt Prendergast (Westminster, Mass.) was next for PSU with an eighth place overall, while sophomore Seth Bartlett (Silver Lake, N.H.) came in 14th.

Junior Melissa Caflisch (Clymer, N.Y.) finished fourth in the women's race, which included more than 75 skiers. Caflisch has also finished in the top four in all four slalom races this season. Sophomore Kate Van Riper (Carabasset Valley, Maine) was the next Panther finisher, taking ninth, while junior Meaghann McKenney (Hubbardston, Mass.) and freshman Alyssa Deane (Casper, Wyo.) placed 18th and 19th, respectively.

The same teams will compete Sunday in the giant slalom at the Saint Anselm Winter Carnival at Mount Sunapee.
