PSU Wrestling competes at Northeast Regional Championship

Folino, Giffard post wins for Panthers in season finale 

            PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshmen Angelo Folino (New Hartford, Conn.) and Noah Giffard (Concord, N.H.) each posted wins as the Plymouth State University wrestling team competed at day one of the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Championship at the Rhode Island Convention Center on Saturday.

            Folino went 1-2 while wrestling at 141 pounds, while Giffard posted the same individual record in the 197-pound bracket.

            The tournament continues tomorrow, but no PSU wrestlers were able to advance to day two. Plymouth State finishes the tournament in 17th place.

           

            The Basics:

            How it Happened:

  • Folino lost by fall in his opening bout but rallied to post an 11-8 decision over Southern Maine's Kevin Moore. He fell by a narrow 6-2 decision in his final competition of the day.
  • Giffard battled at 197 but came up short in a pair of slight decisions, 4-0 and 3-1, while earning a win by forfeit.
  • Also competing for the Panthers were freshmen Nahuel Rodriguez (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Trevor O'Mara (Litchfield, N.H.) and Nick Fortunata (Hampstead, N.H.), sophomore Will Jarvis (Toms River, N.J.), juniors Derek Sardella (Billerica, Mass.) and Kevin Thomas (Stamford, Conn.) and seniors Steve Abusheery (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Colby Ferretti (North Scituate, R.I.).
  • The tournament marked the final competition in the careers of Abusheery and Ferretti.
