PSU Women’s Soccer drops second straight 1-0 contest

- Freshman Jessica Farsaci chipped home a rebound in the 57th minute of action Sunday afternoon to lead the Clarkson University women's soccer team to its first win of the season as the Golden Knights defeated Plymouth State University, 1-0, on day two of the Lotto North Country Classic at Clarkson Field.

The Golden Knights improved to 1-2 on the season while Plymouth State fell to 0-2, both losses by 1-0 scores.  The Panthers were blanked on Saturday by Saint Lawrence by the same count.

After a scoreless first half with both teams seeing occasional scoring opportunities, Clarkson took the lead when Alicia Chace lofted a shot that tipped off Plymouth goaltender Hayley Quinones' (Waitsfield, Vt.) hand and off the crossbar. Farsaci raced in and tapped the rebound past Quinones for the game's only score at the 56:13 mark.

Quinones ended play with five saves and allowed only two goals on the weekend. Meagan Emlaw, who along with Catie Reed was selected to the All-Tournament team, made five stops for her first shutout of the season. Junior Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) was selected to the All-Tournament team for the Panthers.

Both teams attempted nine shots, but the Knights owned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Plymouth State plays again on Wednesday with a visit to Norwich University, as Panther first-year head coach Gene Smith faces his alma mater and the team for which he was an assistant coach last season.  The Panthers' home opener is Saturday, Sept. 10, against Saint Joseph's (4:00 p.m.)
