Ryan Joy joined the Plymouth State Athletics Communications office starting with the 2023-24 academic year after a lengthy stint as the head women's soccer coach.

The longest tenured coach in Plymouth State women’s soccer history, Joy roamed the sidelines for nine seasons after being named the program's 12th head coach in the March of 2014.

A member of the NCAA's regional advisory committee (RAC), Joy led the Panthers to their best record in 13 years in 2016, earning Little East Conference (LEC) Coach of the Year honors in the process to become just the second PSU women's soccer coach to do so. The team finished with a 9-6-3 overall mark and entered the LEC Tournament as the fifth seed. PSU topped UMass Dartmouth in the quarterfinals, advancing on penalty kicks, 4-3, before being nipped by top-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 2-1, in the semifinals.

Plymouth State opened the 2021 season on a tear, roaring out to a 6-2-1 start that included five shutouts. The team went nearly 300 minutes before allowing its first goal, posting clean sheets in the first three games before a one-goal setback (2-1).

The 2019 team finished with a 4-4-0 record in LEC play, marking the most conference victories since the 2003 team went 5-2-0. PSU narrowly missed out on a home playoff game after being nipped in the regular season finale, falling to Eastern Connecticut, 2-1, when the Warriors scored with less than a minute remaining in double overtime. The two teams met in a rematch in the first round of the LEC Tournament, with ECSU squeaking out a 1-0 win.

Prior to taking over the program in 2014, Joy had been coaching soccer for nearly a decade at the college, high school, club and ODP level. He served as the head boys' soccer coach at Bishop Brady (Concord, N.H.) from 2011-13, winning NHIAA Coach of the Year honors in 2013.

Joy has been a youth development trainer for Samba Player Development Academy from 2008-17, helping develop dozens of players who are now playing at the collegiate and national levels. He has also been at the helm for two youth National Futsal Championship teams, and in the spring of 2019 he was named the director of the New Hampshire Soccer League.

Joy started his college career at Worcester Polytechnic Institute studying Industrial Engineering and System Dynamics before transferring to Plymouth State where he has earned both a Bachelor's in Business Administration and Master’s in Strategic Management. He holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "D" License and a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma.

In his current role, Joy supports the Athletics Communications office by overseeing in-game statistics for several sports including soccer and basketball, while assisting with game recaps, digital game program creation and maintenance of program histories and records.

Joy resides in Tilton with his wife Ashley and dog Randy.
