PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Lauren
Lavery (Nashua, N.H./South) scored the only goal of the
game midway through the second half Thursday evening and Plymouth
State University went on to defeat Castleton State College, 1-0, in
a non-conference women's soccer game at rainy Panther Field.
Plymouth State had a decisive 20-2 advantage in shots, but
Castleton State sophomore Micole Bellimer (White River Jct., Vt.)
made several nice stops to keep the Spartans in the game.
Bellimer finished with 17 saves on the evening.
The Panthers finally broke through in the 69th minute when Lavery
made a nice move on a defender just outside the box and shot the
ball past the outstretched Bellimer into the right corner of the
goal. It was Lavery's second goal of the season.
PSU senior Ashley Riberdy (Manchester,
N.H./Memorial) stopped both shots she faced to record her first
shutout of the season and fifth of her career.
The Panthers, 5-6 overall, return to Little East Conference action
Saturday with visit to Rhode Island College for a 12 p.m.
contest. The Spartans, 8-6, return home to host Becker on
Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference match-up (1:00 p.m.)
