MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College picked up its
eighth shutout of the season Sunday afternoon as the 10-1 Panthers
earned up their second win in as many days, this time a 5-0
non-conference victory over Plymouth State University.
David LaRocca opened the scoring just 1:19 into the game a he
ripped a line drive into the top right corner from the right side.
Casey Ftorek made it a 2-0 game at 22:52 as he headed in a corner
kick from Alex Elias. Stephen Hart made a nice through pass to
Taylor Wilkins for the Panthers third goal of the first half with
3:19 remaining.
Elias scored his first goal of the season in the 72nd minute as hit
struck a beautiful shot to the top right corner on a restart from
19 yards out. Andrew Banadda scored the game's final goal in
transition, converting a pass from Hart.
Jamie Wheeler wasn't challenged often in net for the home team,
though he did look solid with one save to earn the shutout. PSU
junior keeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.)
cleared several Middlebury scoring opportunities, while also
picking up three saves on the afternoon.
Plymouth State, 5-7-1, returns home to host Castleton State
Wednesday on Senior Day at Panther Field (5:00 p.m.)
