PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior captain Jaimee
Coombs (Peabody, Mass.) celebrated Senior Day at Panther
Field Saturday afternoon by scoring two goals and leading Plymouth
State University to a 5-0 Little East Conference victory over the
University of Massachusetts Boston in the women's soccer regular
season finale for both schools.
Both teams struggled with the rain and wet field conditions, and it
was a 0-0 game at halftime. The Panthers wasted little time
in the second half, scoring three times in the first six minutes to
take control of the contest. PSU went on to win its third in
a row to complete the regular season at 8-8 overall and 3-4 in
conference games, while UMB concludes its season at 5-12-1 overall
and 0-6-1 in the LEC.
Sophomore Stacy DiSabato (Manchester,
N.H./Central) broke the scoreless tie less than a minute into the
second half, with freshman Alex Marcell
(Pittsford, Vt.) picking up an assist. Coombs made it 2-0
four minutes later with her first of the game, and Marcell added
her team-leading eighth of the season 30 seconds later to give the
Panthers a three-goal advantage.
Freshman Rachel Kindl (Granby, Conn.) tacked on
another Panther goal with 29 minutes on the clock, and Coombs
rounded out the scoring with her second of the game and fifth of
the season with five minutes remaining.
Senior keeper Ashley Riberdy (Manchester,
N.H./Memorial) needed to make just three saves to post her third
shutout of the season. Freshman Ashley McRoberts (Merrimack,
N.H.) made 10 saves for the Beacons.
PSU will on the road on Tuesday for the first round of the LEC
Tournament, with pairings to be announced at the conclusion of this
weekend's games.
