PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Ashley McFetridge (Canton,
Conn.) posted her third double-double of the season Saturday
afternoon with 13 points and 10 rebounds, leading Eastern
Connecticut State University to a 74-35 victory over Plymouth State
University in the Little East Conference women's basketball opener
for both schools at Foley Gymnasium.
McFetridge scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half, helping
the Warriors to a 43-14 margin at the intermission. The 6-2
post player finished the afternoon 6-of-10 from the field.
Eastern also got 12 points and six rebounds from senior Bridget
Durette (Seymour, Conn.) and 11 points and nine rebounds from
freshman guard Jessica Moriarty (East Haven, Conn.)
Plymouth State struggled in the shooting department, converting
just 18 percent on the afternoon. Junior Kayla
Morin (Pascoag, R.I.) and freshman Alex
Marcell (Pittsford, Vt./New Hampton Prep, N.H.) shared
team-high scoring honors with six points apiece. Senior
Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) collected a
game-high 12 rebounds, her second straight double-digit rebounding
performance and third of the season.
Eastern Conn. scored the first nine points of the game and never
looked back. The Warriors got the lead up to double-digits
midway through the first half and pulled away to a 29-point margin
at the break. PSU was unable to mount a challenge in the
second half.
PSU, 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference, plays a non-conference
game Thursday, Dec. 6, at Wheaton College (8:00 p.m.).
Eastern Conn., 6-0 and 1-0, looks to remain unbeaten Thursday with
a non-conference game at Mount Holyoke College (7:00 p.m.)
