DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore Katie Moffo
(Southington, Conn.) recorded 18 points and seven rebounds Saturday
afternoon to lead Western Connecticut State University to a 76-65
victory over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference
women's basketball action at Feldman Arena.
Senior Ally Greenwood (East Hartford, Conn.) and junior Stacey
Roberts (Windham, Conn.) also scored in double figures for the
Colonials, Greenwood with 14 points and nine assists and Roberts
with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior Jennifer Kancler
(Columbia, Conn.) made an appearance in the Colonial line-up after
missing the first seven games of the season with an injury and
scored seven points.
Sophomore Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) posted a
double-double for Plymouth State, scoring 14 points and pulling
down 11 rebounds. Sophomore Laura Kent
(Bellingham, Mass.) and junior Annie Alosa
(Concord, N.H.) also scored in double figures for the Panthers with
12 and 10 points, respectively.
PSU came out strong and took a 13-7 advantage in the first six
minutes, but the Colonials went on a 22-4 run to take a 14-point
lead. Plymouth State made only 35 percent from the field in
the first half but scored 13 points from the free-throw to make the
score 34-28 at intermission. Plymouth State scored more than
half of their second-half points at the line (20 of 37 points), but
the Colonials pulled away in the game's final 10 minutes to win by
11 points.
WestConn raises its season record to 6-2 overall (2-0 in the LEC),
while Plymouth State falls to 3-5 overall (0-2 in conference play).
Both teams host Lasell College in their next game, PSU meeting the
Lasers at Foley Gymnasium on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.) and WestConn
hosting them on Thursday at Feldman Arena (7:00 p.m.)
