WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Junior Nicole Gaudette
(Colchester, Conn.) and sophomore Sarah Swann (Oxford, Conn.)
combined for three goals and three assists Saturday afternoon and
the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team posted
its fourth shutout in five matches with a 5-0 Little East
Conference victory over Plymouth State University at Thomas Nevers
Field.
In the conference opener for both teams, Eastern (3-1-1) downed
Plymouth State (2-1-0) for the ninth straight time in this series,
recording its sixth shutout over the Panthers in the last seven
meetings. It was the fourth shutout in five matches this year for
Eastern as senior keeper Megan Gloster (Agawam, Mass.) and
sophomore Kim Church (Farmington, Conn.) combined on a shutout for
the 11th time in two years.
Swann set up senior Kassiani Bisbikos's (Colchester, Conn.)
first goal of the season to give Eastern a 2-0 lead in the 30th
minute, and fed Gaudette for her second goal of the match midway
through the second half. Swann made it 4-0 with nine minutes left
with her second goal of the year.
Eastern did not allow a second-half shot on goal until six
minutes remained.
Freshman Amber Petrizzo (Plainville, Conn.) scored the first
goal on her first career shot as all 22 Eastern players saw playing
time.
Eastern visits Wheaton College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Wheaton is
ranked third in New England, No. 15 in Division III. PSU returns
home to host Worcester State Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
