PSU Women's Basketball suffers loss at UMaine Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine - Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, Maine) tallied 26 points with nine rebounds Thursday night to help the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team end a five-game losing skid with an 80-70 victory over Plymouth State University at Dearborn Gymnasium.

A tight game throughout, Farmington led 43-40 at halftime, but Plymouth State built a 57-50 advantage with 10:20 left in the contest. The Beavers awoke to put together a 13-0 run over the next 2:30 -- highlighted by 3-pointers from freshmen Jillian Ross (Belfast, Maine) and Ashley Busque (Belgrade, Maine) -- to storm back to a 63-57 lead with 7:27 remaining.

The Panthers knocked the lead down to two points before a 12-0 stretch from the Beavers for a 75-61 command with 2:27 left in the game. Plymouth State closed to within seven points with 1:21 left, but the Beavers held on for the 80-70 win.

Following Laflin, Amanda Byrne (Winslow, Maine) tallied 13 points with three 3-pointers in the win with Erin Porter (Bangor, Maine) adding 11 points.

Senior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Laura Kent (Bellingham, Mass.) each posted a double-double for PSU, with Daniels scoring 15 points and snagging 14 boards and Kent notching 10 points and a like number of rebounds. Freshman Amanda Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) added 12 points for the visitors, while sophomore Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) and junior Kayla Morin (Pascoag, R.I.) also got into double-digit scoring with 10 points apiece.

The Beavers improved to 4-7 and are scheduled to host North Atlantic Conference foe Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday (3:00 p.m.). The Panthers slipped to 5-6 and are slated to host Little East Conference opponent Rhode Island College Saturday at Foley Gymnasium (1:00 p.m.)
