PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Tyler Macnee (Williston, Vt.) scored a pair of second-half goals Tuesday afternoon as Middlebury College defeated Plymouth State University, 3-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match at Panther Field.

            The visiting Panthers from Vermont improved to 8-0-1 overall, while the home Panthers dropped to 4-8-1.  Middlebury, the defending NCAA Division III national champions, extended their unbeaten streak to 18 games, dating back to last season, with 15 shutouts in that span.

            The match was scoreless for much of the first half until senior Corey Moffat (Berkeley, Calif.) put the visitors on the board with just over five minutes on the clock.  Junior Michael Spiak (Andover, Mass.) fed a corner kick into the box and Moffat headed it into the goal for a 1-0 lead.  Middlebury had a 5-1 advantage in shots in the first half.

            Middlebury took over the game in the second half, outshooting the hosts 10-3 after the break and scoring the only two goals, both by Macnee.  Sophomore Harrison Watkins (San Francisco, Calif.) found Macnee in the box for a goal 10 minutes into the half, and Macnee knocked in his own rebound five minutes later to make it 3-0. Macnee now has a team-leading nine goals on the season.

            PSU had two quality chances to score.  Senior Semir Mehmedovic (Concord, N.H.) put a free kick over the Middlebury defensive wall and on goal in the first half, which was saved by senior keeper Brian Bush (Madison, Wis.), and sophomore Tommy Schrey (Munich, Germany) got a solid shot off in the second half but hit the side of the net.

            Bush and junior keeper Jamie Wheeler (Wenham, Mass.) each made one save as Wheeler came off the bench to play the last 12 minutes in the Middlebury goal.  Senior Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) made four saves for PSU.

            Plymouth State returns to action Little East Conference action on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. kick-off at Rhode Island College.  Middlebury returns home to host Bates College on Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest at 1:00 p.m.
