CASTLETON, Vt. - Junior Stacy
DiSabato (Manchester, N.H./Central) scored three
goals, including the game-winning goal in the 88th minute,
Wednesday afternoon to lift Plymouth State University to a 3-2
victory over Castleton State College in non-conference women's
soccer action.
Classmate Lauren Lavery (Nashua, N.H.) registered
assists on all three Panther goals as the Panthers improved to
4-5-3 on the season. Castleton dropped its second straight
and fell to 8-7.
DiSabato (right) scored the first goal in the 23rd minute off
assists from Lavery and freshman Gill Carroll
(Guilford, Conn.) Lavery used a slick heel kick from the left
corner of the 18-yard box to set up Carroll just outside who lofted
a cross in to DiSabato for the header. Castleton found the
equalizer with 44 seconds remaining in the half as Lindsey Sedore
scored to make it 1-1 at the break. Sedore sent home a rebound off
a Courtney Chadburn shot for her second goal of the season.
DiSabato and Lavery hooked up again for a goal in the 56th minute
as DiSabato settled a cross just inside the 18, turned a fired a
shot low past Castleton's diving keeper, Nakita Baldic. Castleton
once again was able to tie the score, this time freshman Maria
Arnot scored off a Chaburn rebound.
Castleton had numerous chances to take the lead, but PSU
freshman keeper Stephanie Regina (Howell, N.J.)
kept the game knotted at 2-2, setting up the game winner. Lavery
took a direct kick from about 40 yards out and played it low, and
DiSabato deflected it past a screened Baldic inside the nearside
post.
The Spartans had a pair of late corner kicks to try and tie the
score, but two Kristin Marek headers both were wide and Plymouth
State preserved the win.
Regina ended the game with the win on seven second-half saves after
relieving starter, Angelina LaBroad (Hampton,
N.H.), who made four first-half saves. Baldic stopped three shots
for Castleton.
Plymouth State will host Rhode Island College on Saturday at 1:00
pm in Little East Conference action. The Spartans are back on the
field Saturday when they travel to Green Mountain College for a
1:00 pm North Atlantic Conference match-up.
